As this website is hosted with Lunarpages I am able to provide you some statistics, feedback and reviews on different key aspects of a web hosting service and hopefully help you in your decision of choosing the right one for you.

Background

I am one of the webmasters of this website and am heavily involved in the operation, maintenance and promotion of this website. This website is a drupal based website hosted with Lunar Pages under the basic hosting plan. We have been with Lunarpages for the past 2 years (at the date of writing).

 

Key Features

Some of the key features that made us choose Lunar Pages  are:

  • Its affordable, cheap and support Paypal - 4.95$ a month which includes a free .com domain name. However you should note that you have to pay atleast for an year in advance which is about 60$ for an year. Also they accept Paypal as a payment mehod.
  • Unlimited bandwidth and disk space - Though we are not one of the most popular websites, unlimited band width gives you the freedom of making regular full backs and downloading them without having to worry about exceeding the monthy allocation. Unlimited disk space can give you similar kind of freedom as well.
  • Out of the box CMS support - This website is Drupal powered and we had virtually no problems setting up our website. Earlier versions of this website were powered by the Joomla CMS and php-fusion CMS. Again I don't remember having any problems with those CMSs as well.
  • 24/7 ticket support - Although it will be handy to have a toll-free phone support, support ticket was acceptable for this price.
  • PHP and unlimited MySql/Postgrade databases - The mandatory requirement for a CMS. Unlimited databases is again a bit of freedom to host multiple websites and web components like a Gallery, Forum independently without having to share the database. Though we started our hosting with PHP4 and MySQL 4 (I think), we got a free upgrade a while ago to PHP 5 and MySQL 5.0.67 Community edition.
  • Unlimited add-on domains, parked domains and sub-domains- Handy and saves money when you have to run multiple websites on either individual domains or sub-domains. 

 

Issues we have experienced

  • Noticible slowdown in the website speed / access times. Did raise a support ticket but was put down to the accessing computer's ISP rahter than Lunar Pages themselves.

 

My Verdict

This really affordable, no-hassle shared hosting with a lot of 'unlimited' features. Obviosuly with any cheap shared hosting, the problem is always performance. With this said, you can happily choose Lunar Pages's Basic Hosting

  • if your website's traffic is not sky rocketing.
  • For 100% CMS support
  • For a lot of 'unlimited' features
  • For a start-up site where there is more of experimentation
